Chavs author Owen Jones is set to deliver the prestigious Richard Price Memorial Lecture in Newington Green.

The 29-year-old who has become a well-known social commentator after Chavs, The Demonisation of the Working Classes was published two years ago, will follow in the footsteps of previous lecturers, author Will Self, literary theorist Terry Eagleton and BBC journalist Evan Davis at New Unity’s Newington Green Chapel, dubbed the birthplace of feminism.

The lecture is named after Dr Richard Price, former minister there from 1758 to 1791, and a leading figure in non-conformism and independent thought.

Rev Andy Pakula said he was delighted to host “such an important voice for working class empowerment,” and added: “The destruction of a proud working class culture is the ticking time bomb of 21st century Britain.”

Tickets for the lecture on Wednesday October 23 at 7pm are £15 or £10 concessions from www.new-unity.org. Proceeds go towards the church.
