Christmas lights will be switched on in Hackney on Sunday, December 1.
The Speaker of Hackney, Michael Desmond, will turn on the lights at 4pm at Hackney Town Hall Square in Mare Street. There will also be carol singing by the Hackney Empire choir featuring characters from the panto Puss in Boots.
Fashion Christmas trees created by local designers, featuring cherries and golden pineapples, will also be unveiled on the day in Hackney Central, Stoke Newington, Hackney Wick, Dalston and Shoredtich.
In addition, online virtual monster company Moshi Monsters will display its top six on lampposts near the fashion trees. Passers-by will be able to create their own lights and magic at each lamppost using a mobile phone.
