Clapton girls’ academy celebrated another set of outstanding results today as nearly three-quarters of its year 12 pupils got five or more GCSEs at grades A to C including English and maths.
Clapton Girls’ Academy celebrated another set of outstanding results today as nearly three-quarters of its year 11 pupils got five or more GCSEs at grades A to C including English and maths.
Around 70 per cent of 170 pupils at the school in Laura place got the impressive results.
One high-flying student Latifa Haque, of Homerton achieved 7 A*s and 4 As. She said: “I feel so happy and relieved. Although my predicted grades were high I did not think I would do that well.”
The 16-year-old plans to do chemistry, physics, geography and biology at A-level and is thinking of pursuing a career in medicine.
Fellow high-achiever Thahmima Alam, 16, of Leyton obtained 6 A*s and 6 As.
“I feel so relieved”, she said. “I did better than I was expecting.”
She hopes to become a paediatrician and will study chemistry, biology, maths and English at A-level.
Her mum Yasmin Alam, 46, said: “I’m very impressed with these results. I believe if you have a goal you have to work hard and focus to get there.”
Amrin Ansari, 16, of Morning Lane, hackney is aspiring to have a career in politics after a strong set of results. The teenager obtained 6 As, 1 B and 2 Cs and is now looking forward to studying history, government and politics, English literature and art A-levels.
She said: “My grades are a lot better than I thought they would be. I did not have a lot of faith in myself but I should as the school is amazing.
“I want to go into politics. I see what’s happening and I want justice and transparency from decision makers and people we elect. “
Head teacher Cheryl Day said: “These are fantastic results - our best ever. It’s wonderful to see the students realise their aspirations and dreams. It’s an important step on their life journey.”
Head of Year 11 Anthony McDonagh said: “I’m really proud of them. They deserve all the success. They have worked hard and they are going to do even better at A-level and BTEC.”
