Members of various faith groups from Hackney came together for a community breakfast to promote community cohesion and unity.
Volunteer police cadets were on hand to help serve guests at Le Ziz restaurant in Dalston Junction on Monday last week.
Guests included Hackney Borough Commander Simon Laurence, Mayor Jules Pipe, Reverend Niall Weir from Stoke Newington Church and representatives of the Alevi Community and Sulemaniye and Aziziye mosques.
A spokesman from the Met said: “Christmas is a time of goodwill to all men, and this also includes different faith groups who don’t celebrate Christmas, as well those who do.
“Hackney is an incredibly diverse borough, where similar events only help promote community cohesion and the fight against all forms of hate crime, including anti-semitism and Islamophobia.”
The breakfast was organised to mark the launch of the Association of Muslim Police Borough Ambassador scheme, which helps Muslims in the police service to observe their faith, and to promote understanding of Islam within the police service and the wider community.
