Firefighters donned gas-tight suits and breathing apparatus to check part of Stoke Newington police station this morning as several members of staff felt mysteriously unwell at the same time.

In the absence of an obvious cause, London Fire Brigade were called just after 10.45am to check for raised chemical levels in the office, whilst London Ambulance Service sent their Command Support vehicle to the scene with the Hazardous Area Response Team and the Joint Response Unit.

A Scotland Yard spokesman said that no-one needed medical treatment and nothing suspicious was found.

The station did not need to close and did not need to be evacuated.
