Police appeal for help in tracking down killer

POLICE are issuing a ten-year anniversary appeal to help find the killers of a teenage student who was brutally murdered on his way home from college.

Tangor, 16, of Heron Drive, Stoke Newington, was getting off the 141 bus at around 5.40pm on October 3 2000 in Green Lanes at the junction of Brownswood Road when he was confronted by a gang.

A scuffle ensued during which one of the mob, who followed Tangor off the bus, stepped forward and stabbed him in the neck before the group fled.

The former Stoke Newington secondary school pupil staggered into a nearby supermarket for help and was rushed to Homerton Hospital where he died four days later.

On the evening of the murder he was wearing a red and black Galatasaray football jacket and black trousers.

A post-mortem gave cause of death as a stab wound to the neck and police are yet to find a motive for the killing.

Seven people were arrested at the time but released without charge.

DCI Simon Moring, Homicide and Specialist Crime Command, said: “It is now ten years since that fateful day when Tangor lost his life so needlessly, and I believe there are still people in the local community who know who is responsible.

“I am hoping the passage of time will have seen changes in group affiliations and that someone will do the right thing and come forward to enable justice for Tangor’s family.”

Anyone with information should call police on 020 8345 4142 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
