A gunman known 'Vectra' or 'Tall Man' who shot a man at point-blank range after calling him a 'pussyhole' him for refusing to lend him £500 has been jailed for 21 years.
Izaiah Smith, 23, blasted 36 year-old Alrick Huie in the side of the stomach outside his home in Jenner Road, Stoke Newington.
Mr Huie - a Jamaican staying in the UK illegally under the name Omar Kennedy - miraculously survived after surgeons battled to repair the damage to his internal organs, but spent five weeks recovering in hospital.
The bullet is still lodged in his buttock.
Both Mr Huie and his girlfriend Andrea Armstrong, who claimed benefits and made money selling clothes bought cheaply in the Caribbean, identified Smith, who they knew as ‘Vectra’ or ‘Tall Man’.
They had arranged to meet him on the morning of April 26 last year.
Prosecutor Oliver Glasgow said: “He got into the rear side of the car and told them he wanted to buy clothes for his birthday and borrow £500.
“Alrick told him that they didn’t have any money. With that the defendant called Mr Huie a pussyhole and without warning shot him in the side.”
Smith fled while Ms Armstrong drove as fast as she could to the nearest hospital, where doctors worked through the night to save her boyfriend.
Smith left London with his partner and child and ‘lay low’ in Bletchingdon, Oxfordshire, but was arrested two weeks later.
A spent cartridge and a full cartridge were found in the car but the gun has never been traced.
Smith was cleared of attempted murder but convicted in October of wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm and possessing a firearm with intent to endanger life.
He was sentenced to 14 years for section 18 assault and seven years possession of a firearm with the intent to endanger life, and the sentences are to run concurrently.
