A man who was caught with cocaine worth up to £3 million when he was stopped by police officers in Hoxton has been sentenced to five years’ imprisonment.

Darren Angol, 32, of Millfields Road, in Lower Clapton was stopped in a minicab on July 12 in Pitfield St, and a Zara bag containing 2.46kg of cocaine, of 61 per cent purity, was found in the back of the car and a further 55g of cocaine, of 73 per cent purity, was found in the driver’s side door.

Angol and the minicab driver, Perry Law, 50, of Wingfield Drive, Grays in Essex were arrested for possession with intent to supply class A drugs.

A search of Angol’s address uncovered a further 14g of cocaine.

Police estimated the cocaine was valued at between £460,000 and £3 million.

Both men pleaded guilty at Snaresbrook Crown Court on October 15 to possession with intent to supply of class A, and Angol was sentenced to five years’ imprisonment, while Law received twelve months’ imprisonment, suspended for twelve months.

DC Simon Walsh of Hackney Police, said: “As a result of these arrests a large quantity of cocaine was recovered, no doubt interrupting the supply of drugs in Hackney and beyond.

“Experience shows us that drug dealing fuels many other forms of crime, so removing them from the streets is a great result for the borough.”
