Jilted lover faces year for killing rival in Hackney Wick

A jilted lover who stabbed a rival to death after finding him half-naked in his ex-girlfriend’s bedroom is facing years behind bars.
Damion Douglas, 24, attacked Kemar Duhaney, 21, with a kitchen knife at former partner Sheloney Johnson’s home in Buxhall Crescent, Hackney Wick.
Stripped to the waist, Mr Duhaney chased the attacker out into the street brandishing a wooden mop and brawled with him as shocked neighbours looked on.
Prosecutor Duncan Atikinson told the Old Bailey that Douglas then lunged like a boxer, stabbing Mr Duhaney in the chest on July 11 last year. Mr Duhaney, from Bruce Grove, Tottenham, died in hospital later that day.
Douglas and Ms Johnson, 21, had an 11-month-old daughter together but had separated around four months before the killing and she had taken up with former partner Mr Duhaney.
Douglas had been looking after the little girl at his mother’s home and went to Ms Johnson’s house, to ask for some nappies.
Prosecutor Duncan Atkinson said: “Possibly because he spotted property belonging to Mr Duhaney in the hallway, he then went upstairs, saying he needed to use the toilet.
“It was there he encountered Mr Duhaney and having seen him he then went back downstairs and into the kitchen.
“Ms Johnson could hear the sound of the kitchen being – in her words – ransacked, with the sound of knives and cutlery.”
The pair had a history of bad blood and had to be dragged apart at a Diamond Jubilee party weeks earlier after Douglas threatened his rival with a glass bottle.
Douglas, of Ballance Road, Homerton, was cleared of murder after claiming he had not intended to cause serious harm.
He had already admitted the less serious charge of manslaughter, for which he will be sentenced in January.
Judge Stephen Kramer QC told Douglas: “Be under no illusions, the sentence for manslaughter will inevitably be one of custody.
