Two men who smuggled loft insulation to support a courtroom lie in a case where a PCSO was shot at have been given jail terms.

Zeckiyilmaz Ibrahim, 35, of Chigwell Road, South Woodford, and Scott Nelson, 27, of Wharton Road, Stratford, admitted lying during the trial of three men – including Nelson – over the Downs Estate shooting in April 2014.

Evidence against Nelson was that the submachine gun used in the shooting was found nearby in a loft in Eastdown House, Dalston, and fibres on his shoes matched the loft insulation.

Ibrahim told jurors they had been at his home before the shooting and Nelson had been in his loft – a claim backed up by analysis of the fibres, which matched.

The jury didn’t believe the men and Nelson was jailed for 12 years for possession of a firearm and assisting an offender.

Both men were then arrested for perverting the course of justice after detectives discovered Nelson had actually moved insulation from the loft in Eastdown House to Ibrahims.

They were sentenced yesterday at the Old Bailey.

Nelson was jailed for 30 months to run consecutive to the 12 years he is already serving and Ibrahim was jailed for 18 months.

The original case also saw Mubarak Shaibu, 25, of Amhurst Road, Dalston, jailed for 27 years in September last year.

He had pleaded guilty to possession of a firearm with intent to endanger life and possession of ammunition with intent at an earlier hearing.

Another man was found not guilty.
