Silent moped riders snatch phone in De Beauvoir

PUBLISHED: 17:59 13 August 2013 | UPDATED: 17:59 13 August 2013

Two thieves wearing full face helmets riding a moped stole a mobile phone from a woman in Downham Road at around 1pm last Monday.

They rode the bike silently behind her as she spoke on the handset before snatching it from her hand and escaping towards Ufton Road.

The woman, who wishes to remain anonymous is now warning others to be vigilant and aware of their surroundings when using mobiles.

Police urge people not to make calls or to text whilst walking the streets.

A police spokeswoman said: “Thieves are opportunists, so don’t make yourself an easy target by showing off the handset you’re carrying around.”
