A Stoke Newington man has been charged with smuggling four kilos of cocaine into the country after two drugs busts by Border Force officers at Heathrow.

The first haul, of 14 kilos, was seized on Friday night when a passenger was stopped at Terminal 2 after arriving on a flight from Bogota, Colombia.

The next day another passenger was stopped at the same terminal after arriving from the same location, and the drugs were found in a suitcase. The two hauls had a potential street value of £640,000.

Carlos Andres Sabogal Ghermac, 38, of Manor Road was charged with importing Class A drugs relating to the second bust and 41-year-old Hugo Escobar Gaviria, of no fixed UK address, was charged with the same offence over the first.

Both men appeared at Uxbridge Magistrates’ Court yesterday and were remanded to appear at Isleworth Crown Court at later dates.

Ghermac will appear on November 2.
