Police have released a CCTV image of a convicted murderer just moments before he absconded from a mental health centre in Hackney last week.

Lerone Boye, who escaped from the John Howard Centre in Kenworthy Road, Homerton, at around 2pm five days ago, is still at large.

Lerone Michael Boye, 27, was sentenced at the Old Bailey last December to 28 years for the murder of 17-year-old Kelvin Chibueze in August 2011.

The teenager rushed out of a private party in Ilford after he was attacked in a mass brawl involving knives and bar stools.

But he youth tripped outside a Lidl supermarket and four rival gang members – including Boye - sat on his legs to stop him running away before stabbing him repeatedly with a foot-long blade.

Although he has probably since changed his clothing, the latest image shows Boye wearing grey jogging bottoms and grey/blue sweatshirt with a grey vest over the top.

Boye has a horse shoe shaped scar on his right cheek, a goatee beard and a gold tooth in his upper row of teeth.

He is described as black man, approximately 5ft 10ins tall of slim build and with short black hair.

The public are advised not to approach Boye but call 999 if seen.

Anyone with any information about Boye’s whereabouts can also call police on 101 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
