A man arrested for ticket touting at the Wireless festival earlier this year has been ordered to pay out more than £600.

Abraham Sonne, from Manchester, was caught trying to sell tickets to the festival in Finsbury Park by Haringey Council’s enforcement team on July 4.

The 41-year-old was seen offering tickets for sale between £40 and £50 on the first day of the event, headlined by rap legend Kanye West, and had 11 tickets confiscated from him.

Mr Sonne did not attend his hearing at Tottenham magistrates court last month and was convicted in his absence.

He was fined £200 and ordered to pay costs of £407.50, with a victim surcharge of £20.

Haringey Council’s neighbourhood action team, licencing officers and police worked throughout the three day event where the face value of tickets was £65.

A total of 20 tickets were confiscated from touts and illegal traders, 16 people were fixed penalty notices of £150 and four others now face prosecution.

This follows a similar operation in Finsbury Park, at an Arctic Monkeys gig, which saw five people prosecuted for touting cut price tickets in May.

The latest to face court action was Matthew Dudley, of Burford Gardens, Palmers Green, who was ordered to pay out almost £900 in costs after he was caught selling an official ticket to the rock band’s concert for the reduced price of £20.

The 31-year-old was also given a six month conditional discharge when he appeared at Tottenham magistrates court last month.

Haringey council member for the environment, Cllr Stuart McNamara, said: “These touts have learned the hard way that selling on official tickets doesn’t pay.

“This sort of activity, which often involves ripping off and pestering people who are on their way to a concert of festival, is not welcome and we will continue to take a tough stance when we do see it happening.”
