Bereaved girlfriend makes emotional appeal two years after Hackney man’s murder
A bereaved girlfriend is desperate not to reach the second anniversary of her boyfriend’s murder without knowing who killed him or why - and the mum-of-three has made an emotional new appeal for information.
Anne Boriel had two children with partner Wayne Powell, and was five months pregnant with their third child, when he was shot four times by a lone gunman in Chingford on July 5, 2010.
Nearly two years later - and despite a 20,000 reward for information - his death remains a mystery and Wayne’s family are still waiting for justice.
Wayne, grew up in Kyverdale Road, Stamford Hill, and attended Hackney Downs School, now the Mossbourne Academy in Downs Park Road, but moved to Seven Sisters with Anne in 2000.
He was working for British Rail and was not involved in gangs or any criminal activity, and Anne suspects his death was a tragic case of mistaken identity.
She said: “Nothings really moved on, and there’s no closure at all. People haven’t come forward, even with the reward, and I don’t know what more we can do.
“I feel like I’m at a dead end road. I need to get this back out there and jog people’s memories.”

Anne’s daughter India will turn nine on Sunday (May 13), and the mum said birthdays and special occasions are particularly hard for the family. She’s also raising Angel, six, and her baby – whom she named Wayne, after the father her son will never know - will be two in October.
“It’s been hard on my own,” she said. “I’ve had a tough time with the kids. Wayne was a very hands-on dad – he even used to wash the girls’ hair - so it’s been really difficult without him.”
Det Insp Dave Rock, of the Met’s gun crime unit Trident, confirmed Wayne was not a criminal or gang member, and urged witnesses to come forward.
Wayne was in his black BMW in Higham Station Avenue, Chingford, when the gunman approached him. He was gunned down as he got out to try to talk to the man, and the killer walked off towards Coningsby Gardens.
