POLICE have praised the courage of two doormen and a taxi driver who caught a drive-by gunman who shot at clubbers outside a Hackney nightclub hours after being refused entry.
Abdi Samanter, 29, was jailed for a minimum of 11 years after being found guilty of two counts of attempted murder at the Old Bailey last Thursday.
The incident occurred on December 14 last year, when Samanter returned to Sosho club on a motorcycle in Tabernacle Street after being turned away, firing shots into a group of clubbers.
Miraculously, no one was injured.
Samanter fled on the motorcycle but fell from the vehicle and was chased on foot by the door staff and the passing taxi driver, who eventually detained him despite being shot at during the pursuit.
Senior Investigating officer, Det Insp Michael Millar from the Trident north shootings team, said: “Today’s conviction could not have been achieved without the courage and bravery shown by two doormen and a passing taxi driver who chased and caught Samanter even though he levelled his firearm and shot at them.”
