Five teenagers who killed father-of-three Daniel Frederick yards from his home in Stoke Newington have today been jailed for 64 years.

Daniel, 34, was stabbed seven times by the masked gang who then left him for dead outside Burns House in Shakspeare Walk on January 8.

He had spent the day at the hospital with his pregnant partner and was waiting for a friend at about 5.45pm when he was attacked in front of children.

He died later that night in hospital of a stab wound to his left lung.

Kacper Karasinski, 18, of Mount Pleasant Lane, Upper Clapton, has been locked up for 20 years after being found guilty of murder.

A 17-year-old boy from Ilford was also convicted of murder and has been sentenced to 17 years.

Yigiter Gok, 18, of Sanford Lane, Stoke Newington and another 17-year-old from Hackney were both found not guilty of the murder but guilty of manslaughter. They were jailed for nine and eight years respectively.

A 16-year-old boy who had pleaded guilty to murder prior to the trial was sentenced to 10 years.

Daniel had no gang involvement and police believe he was killed in a case of mistaken identity. The trial heard one of the gang’s friends had been attacked in prison by a member of the Shakspeare Boys gang and they had gone to the area for revenge.

After media reports of Daniel’s death, the five killers all left London. Karasinski booked a flight to Oslo, Gok boarded a ferry to France and then went on to Turkey, while two of the unnamed teens were in Bedfordshire and Stevenage.

Det Insp Paul Considine, senior investigating officer, said: “This was a ruthless, violent and unprovoked attack in which Daniel stood no chance. He was completely taken by surprise by his attackers who cowardly stabbed him in the back giving him no opportunity to defend himself.

“All five defendants disguised and armed themselves and willingly carried out a brutal attack on Daniel knowing it was likely there would only be one outcome, the infliction of very serious injuries or death.”

“This was a complex investigation made more difficult as Daniel was mistakenly targeted by his attackers.

“My team diligently pieced together the evidence and then located, arrested and charged all those responsible for his death. I hope that today’s result provides Daniel’s family with a small measure of comfort and closure.”
