Seven vehicles were seized by police for offences including disqualified driving and no insurance, in an operation hoping to deter criminals.
Officers also made two arrests - one for possession with intent to supply class A drugs and the other for disqualified driving – during automatic number plate recognition (ANPR) exercise on Monday (June 13) in Upper Clapton Road.
PC Peter Coetzer, from Cazenove Safer Neighbourhoods team, said: “This visible operation is just one of many and I hope it will act as a deterrent to criminals and sends out a positive message to the local community.”
ANPR systems operate using a camera, which can scan the number place of up to 3000 vehicles every hour.
The image of each number place is fed through the camera into a computer system, which then checks the details of vehicles held on various enforcement databases including the Police National Computer (PNC),Vehicle Licensing Agency (DVLA), local police intelligence and motor insurers’ databases.
