A 34-year-old Hackney woman was arrested on Tuesday after mobile phone footage appeared to show her racially abusing white people as she sat on a bus.

The two and a half minute video was uploaded to video-sharing website Youtube four days ago where it went viral, and has already been viewed by more than 66,000 people.

The woman, who was arrested on suspicion of a racially aggravated public order offence, has been bailed to return to an east London police station in September - on condition that she does not travel on any London bus in the meantime.

The clip is said to show the woman unleashing a foul-mouthed tirade. She allegedly shouted: “I can’t stand you white people, I tell you. The whole lot of you are programmed, f****** puppets. Not this one, I’m black and proud.”

A Met police spokesman said: “On Monday, officers from the Safer Transport Command began to assess footage of a woman that was brought to our attention.

“Officers are continuing to try and establish when and where the footage was taken.”

Detectives appealed for passengers, or anyone with information, to come forward by contacting Det Con Chris Hayward, of the Safer Transport Command Workplace Violence Unit, on 020 3054 5409.
