The 17-year old who formed part of a gang which brutally stabbed teenager Jeremie Malenge to death, has been named after a judge lifted reporting restrictions.

The anonymity of Tariq William-Dawodu, of Love Lane, Woodford Green was previously protected due to a legal duty to not name offenders aged under 18, but this was lifted due to exceptional circumstances.

The four teenagers responsible for the death of 17-year-old Jeremie were sentenced on Friday at the Old Bailey after being found guilty of murder following an eight-week trial which finished last month.

Sanaa Sayed Ibrahim, 18, of Homerton Road, who was accused of being the ‘inside woman’ in the murder, was sentenced to 14 years’ imprisonment.

William-Dawodu was sentenced to 18-and-a-half years, Tre Morgan, 18, of Lyham Road, Brixton was sentenced to 16 years, and a 14-year-old boy from Hackney who cannot be named was sentenced to 12 years – all for murder.

The heart of Mr Malenge, a former straight-A student at Petchey Academy, was pierced as he was stabbed three times in the chest and died at the scene after he was ambushed outside a supermarket in Ponsford Street, Homerton, on January 6 this year.

Ibrahim had spent the day with Jeremie and his 17-year old friend, before heading to Hackney Central on the train.

Ibrahim was in contact with William-Dawodu 36 times by text, call, and voicemail in the half hour before the fatal stabbing, as well as in person, supplying information about what was going on and acting with the others to execute what the prosecution dubbed ‘the most deadly plan’.

Det Ch Insp Hughes said: “Jeremie was running for his life when he was attacked and left on the pavement suffering from injuries that were to prove fatal.

“The sentences handed down are testament to the hard work of the investigating team, the numerous witnesses who came forward to assist the investigation and the impressive efforts of Hackney’s integrated gangs and CCTV units.

“The loss of Jeremie will be felt by his family every day for the rest of their lives. I sincerely hope that today’s justice brings them a measure of comfort in their grief.”

Deputy Mayor of Hackney, Cllr Sophie Linden, added: “I cannot imagine the pain and grief Jeremie’s family have been through.

“As well as capturing the attack, council CCTV operators followed the attackers as they fled from the scene of the crime and Hackney’s integrated gangs unit carried out further investigations helping the police to make arrests.”

“We will continue to do all we can to work in partnership with the police.”
