The front counter at Shoreditch Police Station is shutting for good on Thursday.
Hackney will be left with just one front counter in Stoke Newington and fewer neighbourhood contact points as part of the London-wide plans to raze £400million from the Met’s budget.
As well as the station in Shepherdess Walk, five smaller local bases will also be “disposed of” in the plans: in Haggerston Road and Orsman Road in Haggerston; Shacklewell Lane in Dalston; and the Urban Hive in Theydon Road, Upper Clapton; as well as the shared Hackney Service Centre.
The Mayor’s Office for Policing And Crime (MOPAC) confirmed the cuts on November 1 after a consultation.
It estimates £170m of capital could be raised by closing “underused” front counters and selling “expensive to run” buildings.
Shoreditch is one of 20 stations across London that receive one or even sometimes no crime reports each day at its front counter.
