A man is beginning a 20-year jail term for raping two women, one of whom he attacked in Stoke Newington while house-sitting.

Edward Gabbai, 30, of Borehamwood, had met a young woman on Tinder. He raped her in Hackney in early 2016.

He met his second victim on a night out in Islington in December of that year. He offered to share a cab home with her and took her to another place he was house-sitting in Battersea, where he raped her and filmed part of the attack on his phone.

The footage, seen by police, shows him violently assaulting and raping her.

He was arrested that same month but denied the offences. During his trial at Kingston Crown Court he said both victims had consented to his use of violence and were willing participants in the “roleplay”.

But the jury found him guilty and he was today jailed for two counts of rape. He was acquitted of two more counts of rape relating to the second victim, and another count against a third victim.

Det Insp Keith Ward paid tribute to the victims. He said: “This was a very difficult process for the victims who displayed considerable courage, not only in reporting the offences to the police in the first place, but throughout the ensuing investigation and trial.

“I hope this verdict today goes someway in helping them to move on from what was a harrowing ordeal.”
