Police have released the image of the man they are hunting after a one-year-old boy was killed and his twin sister critically injured in Finsbury Park.

Bidhya Sagar Das, 33, left the flat he shared with the children in Wilberforce Road shortly before officers were called last night.

Scotland Yard has launched a murder investigation into the death of the toddler.

A horrified neighbour told the Gazette how their mother could be heard screaming in the streets.

The man, who did not wish to be named, said: “It was horrendous. This woman was screaming outside on the streets, I heard her distressed.

“She went out and said someone had killed her kid. There were some other who lived in the property running down the road looking for emergency services.

“There were seven police cars and three ambulances, and at midnight the two children were put into an ambulance outside my house.”

The babies were taken to an east London hospital after police were called at 11.10pm, but the boy was pronounced dead just before 1am today.

The girl’s condition remains critical.

DCI Dave Whellams of the Homicide and Major Crime Command, who is leading the investigation, believes the incident was “domestic”.

“Detectives are urgently trying to trace a man who was at the flat shortly before the injured children were found, but left before emergency services were called,” he said.

“The man has not been seen since this time. If any members of the public see this man or know his whereabouts, they are urged to contact police via 999 immediately.”

No arrests have been made.

Anyone with information that could assist the investigation is asked to contact the incident room on 020 8345 3775.
