Policing are urging cash machine users to beware when withdrawing money after a number of “Lebanese loop” devices were found in Hackney.
The device with a hidden camera was found at the Natwest bank ATM, in Amhurst Road, on April 23 and at Barclay’s ATM on the junction of Stamford Hill and Clapton Common on April 24.
Lebanese loops are used to commit fraud by placing a strip of metal or plastic to blocks the ATM’s card slot, causing any inserted card to be apparently retained by the machine. Fraudsters can record the pin when the card holder enters it and then retrieve the card when they leave.
