A Hackney officer is nursing a dislocated shoulder after trying to catch a man chasing people with a kitchen knife in Kingsland Road.

The man was targeting members of the public at about 1am on Sunday morning when the policeman was injured tried to detain him.

A man was later charged with possession of an offensive weapon and affray.

Cdr Nick Downing, responsible for borough policing in west London, paid tribute to the officer.

He said: “Once again an officer places themselves in harms way to protect our communities. Thank you for doing such a fantastic job, speedy recovery.”
