Rashan Charles protest: Police hunt Dalston ‘violent disorder’ suspects

In the early hours of July 22, Mr Charles was seen on CCTV being tackled to the floor of Yours Locally in Kingsland Road, Dalston, by a police officer and a bystander. Hours later, he died in hospital.

Six days later, on July 28, a demonstration took place outside Yours Locally near the junction with Middleton Road.

The Met said: “The demonstration, which was planned and initially peaceful, was used by a small number of people as an opportunity to commit disorder.

“Several small fires were started, a number of items were placed in the road and objects including bottles were thrown at police.”

The three people police are trying to identify are:

• A white woman (“suspect one”) with long brown hair. She was wearing a blue denim top.

• A black man (“suspect two”) with short black hair and unshaven, wearing a long-sleeved white shirt and glasses.

• A light-skinned black man (“suspect three”) in his late teens, wearing a grey tracksuit with a hood.

Det Sgt Gareth Coffey, of Hackney Police, is leading the investigation and said: “We would like to speak to those pictured in connection with the disorder that took place that day. Anyone who recognises any of those pictured is asked to contact the investigation team directly on 0207 275 3632.”

Mr Charles’ death is currently subject to an Independent Police Complaints Commission investigation. His inquest is due to open today.
