Two men have been charged with racially and religiously aggravated criminal damage after more than 100 tyres were slashed on at least 63 vehicles in Stamford Hill during the early hours of Sunday morning.

The volunteer Jewish patrol force Shomrim has been working with police to identify victims concentrated in Springfield and Cazenove wards.

Shomrim volunteer, Shulem Stern, told the Gazette on Sunday: “Tens of vehicles were targeted, with the trend being Volvos and people-carriers of various makes, which are very popular vehicles amongst the local Jewish community, however at this moment in time, the motive remains unknown.

“Many people have come out and seen their tyre slashed and they weren’t aware of the wider scale.

“Once they were aware people were persuaded to report, the reaction was more shock than anything else, if someone has gone around an area which covers two wards and damaged that amount of tyres on that scale, it’s not something that happens every day.”
