Wreaths laid in memory of Hackney’s war dead were chucked across the ground at St John at Hackney church last night in a shocking act of vandalism.

Police were called to the gardens in Churchwell Path after reports that a woman was destroying the memorial.

One woman was arrested over the incident and after combing the area for evidence, officers cleaned up and restored the memorial to pay their respect to the fallen.
