A cyclist is fighting for his life in hospital after being hit by a car in Hackney last night.
The 33-year-old was left with a head injury following the collision in Pritchard’s Road at the junction with Whiston Road, Haggerston, just before 8pm.
The driver of the car stopped at the scene and has not been arrested.
One woman who did not wish to be named told the Gazette: “I walked to the shop last night and the guy said they had stripped all his clothes off and they were working on him in the road. He said his whole face was destroyed, and there was blood everywhere. When I walked past just now it made me go cold. It made my whole body shiver and tremble.”
She believes this is the third cyclist in the space of three months who has been injured at the same junction, and witnessed a cyclist go under a car there herself in August.
She added: “I think they need to do something because it’s getting drastic. It’s dangerous. I think the junction is too open.
“I just hope he pulls through. His poor family must have been distraught.”
Detectives are now appealing for information and witnesses.
Anyone who witnessed the collision or has any information is asked to contact the serious collision investigation unit at Chadwell Heath on 020 8597 4874 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
