A cyclist was rushed to hospital after colliding with a motorbike in Stoke Newington this morning.

The victim - thought to be a man in his 60s - was rushed to Homerton Hospital as a priority after the collision at Stoke Newington Church Street, near the junction with Clissold Crescent at about 7.40am.

A good samaritan driver stopped to give him first aid before paramedics arrived – his injuries were described as non-life threatening.

A waitress from the nearby New River Cafe said: “I didn’t hear anything, I was just sitting in the cafe.

“But when I looked up there were lots of people there.

“He wasn’t moving, it looked serious.

“It took about 15 minutes for the ambulance to come. There was one really nice, brave man who was driving a land rover.

“A lot of people were passing, but not doing anything.

“He stopped and seemed to be doing first aid and talking to the man on the ground and helping him.

“Then all the police and the ambulance turned up.

“It’s very sad.”

A spokesman for London Ambulance Service said: “We were called to reports of a road traffic collision involving a bicycle and a motorbike on Church Street in Stoke Newington.

“We sent an ambulance crew to the scene.

“We treated a man reported to be in his sixties.

“He was taken to Homerton hospital as a priority.”

Police closed the road in both directions until 10.30am.
