The Dalston Eastern Curve Garden will be lit by over a hundred home-made lanterns as darkness falls this weekend, as its ‘festival of light’ reaches a climax.

Over the last few weeks families have been making giant willow ‘fruit and veg’ lanterns as well as lights out of everyday objects like jam jars and paper bags in a series of workshops at the garden in Dalston Lane.

This Saturday (December 15) the Jubilee Community Choir will lead carols between 3.30pm to 5pm, while a Christmas goodies stall and tombola will raise funds for the Pedal Power Cycling Club, based at Finsbury Park for people with learning disabilities.

On Sunday storyteller Sonia Caller will spin some yarns from 3pm inside the ‘Pineapple House’, then ukulele players are invited to bring their instruments for a festive strum-along with local Dalston ‘uke teacher’ David Harrison.

The evening’s festivities will round off at 7pm with carols sung by the choir of Dalston’s Shiloh Pentecostal Church.
