A children’s education charity in Kingsland High Street has been given £1,000 by Amazon to help run its year-long programme.
The Hackney Pirates supports youngsters aged nine to 12, offering an out-of-school learning environment. At its Dalston base, the Ship of Adventures, kids can create their own music, websites and books.
And when Amazon found about it its amazing work, it decided to give it a much-needed financial boost as part of its Amazon in the Community programme.
Pirates fundraising chief Lily Taylor said: “It’s brilliant to get this support from Amazon.
“Both of our organisations have the aim of improving the education experience of young people in east London on an academic and personal level.”
Amazon opened its UK office in Shoreditch last year. UK manager Doug Gurr said: “By capturing their imaginations in an exciting and engaging way, The Hackney Pirates have achieved real results, boosting the confidence and literacy of children.”
