A pub where about £3,000 worth of suspected cannabis and an alleged firearm were discovered during a police raid, has had its licence renewed.

Hackney Police also found a large quantity of cash and suspected wraps of class A drugs in a bedroom at The Kingsland Pub, in Kingsland High Street, Dalston, on September 18.

Officers then asked Hackney Council to review the pub’s licence, which is held by Trudy Fitzgerald and Martin Burke.

At an initial meeting on September 25, the licensing sub-committee made a decision to suspend the pub’s licence as an interim measure until a full meeting was held.

However, Miss Fitzgerald appealed against the suspension, and the sub-committee earlier this month made a decision to reinstate the licence.

Amendments were made to the conditions of the licence at a full review meeting on Thursday – including having CCTV cameras trained on all entry and exit points, keeping an incident log and displaying signs that say the pub has a zero drugs tolerance policy.

A council spokesman said: “The council and the police take incidents and complaints concerning pubs and clubs very seriously, which is why the licensing sub-committee suspended The Kingsland Pub’s licence pending a full review.

“This review has now taken place.

“After hearing from the police and the licensee, the committee was satisfied with the many additional conditions put in place.

“The premises will continue to be monitored and the council and the police will not hesitate in taking any further action if any of the conditions are not met.”

A man has been charged with possession with intent to supply class B drugs and is due to appear before Thames Magistrates’ Court, Bow Road, Bow, on Wednesday.

Miss Fitzgerald was unavailable for comment.
