Detectives investigating the stabbing of Daniel Frederick in Stoke Newington have arrested a 16-year old boy on suspicion of murder.

The teenager was this afternoon being held in custody following his arrest earlier today.

Daniel, 34, was attacked while walking home at 6pm on January 8. He had been attending a hospital check-up for his pregnant partner.

He was ambushed on the Milton Gardens Estate just yards from his home in Shakspeare Walk.

According to his sister, Louise, witnesses have described seeing up to seven assailants fleeing the scene after the attack outside Burns House.

Daniel was taken to hospital but died six hours later. Investigators believe he was a victim of mistaken identity.

Now Louise is appealing for donations through crowdfunding site Go Fund Me to pay for his funeral, and has so far raised more than £1,000.

Paying tribute to her brother, she wrote on the page: “Daniel, a hard worker and popular figure in Shakspeare Walk, was a loving father, a caring brother and a dutiful son.

“Being taken at such an early age has left his family and loved ones in total disarray.”

A 26-year-old man arrested on suspicion of murder on Wednesday has been released under investigation pending further enquiries.

Det Insp Paul Considine, who is leading the investigation, said: “From the information I have at this time it seems that Daniel may have been mistaken for somebody else.

“He appears to be a completely innocent victim who was walking through the estate when he was subject to an unprovoked attack.

“We have now made two arrests in connection with Daniel’s murder, but we are still appealing for any witnesses or anyone with information who have not yet spoken to us to do so as a matter of urgency.”

Anyone with information is asked to call 020 8345 3734, or contact Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
