A dance troupe, rappers, singers, spoken word artists and poets enthralled around 150 people across three generations at the Rose Lipman Building in De Beauvoir Road, De Beauvoir.

Nearly all the performances celebrated women or featured lyrics about or by female singers and poets.

Organiser Shanae Allen, 25, of Flex and Co Entertainment in Balms Road, said: “It was an amazing night with great help from the young people across Hackney. “There were amazing contributions from the Crib Project, young people and their parents. Celebrating such an important day has opened people’s eyes as many did not know about this global day.”

Janette Collins, founder of social inclusion project The Crib who assisted with the event, said: “I thought it was fantastic and well-organised. There were 150 people there who came out to celebrate. It was great to see so many people from across different generations there.”
