Police appealing for information to trace mental health patient who escaped from secure mental health unit

The public has been warned not to approach a violent schizophrenic, who has disappeared from a Homerton secure mental health unit.

Police are appealing for information to trace 27-year old Chidi Njoku who went missing whilst out walking with his escort.

He was last seen heading towards Homerton Overground rail station.

Mr Njoku is a patient at the John Howard Centre in Kenworthy Road and is being cared and treated under the Mental Health Act, and he has a history of violence.

He is described as a black male, 6ft tall and of stocky build and was wearing a red jumper, grey bottoms and black trainers.

He suffers from schizophrenia and is currently on medication.

He is believed to be in the east or central London area.

The John Howard Centre caters for people with learning disabilities and mental health difficulties and is run by the East London NHS Foundation Trust in Hackney.
