THE driver of a BMW, which was chased across west London from Hounslow to Kew Bridge, abandoned the car, jumped into the river Thames and swam to an island where a police helicopter had to rescue him.

Prosecutor Christiaan Moll told Isleworth Crown Court on Monday that Hiep Nguyen, of Bethune Road, Stoke Newington, raced along at speeds up to 100mph, jumped red lights at 60mph and "broke every traffic rule in the book".

The 28-year-old father-of two admitted charges of dangerous driving without a licence or insurance.
