Ex-England ace Sol Campbell dropped into a Stamford Hill community centre to serve up news of an award nod for its tennis programme.
The North London Muslim Community Centre (NLMCC) is shortlisted for the Tennis Foundation special achievement award in the British Ethnic Diversity Sports Awards.
The awards recognise sporting excellence in Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic (BAME) communities and the NLMCC has been praised for helping tennis reach a new audience through its Serves project.
Welcoming the news, NLMCC director Mohammed Amejee said: “Serves has given our young people access to a sport which traditionally was out of their reach.”
The sessions have proved so popular they are now run weekly, with 25 kids taking part.
