Kind-hearted children from Daubeney Primary School have presented a cheque for £400 to a children’s ward at Homerton Hospital.
The youngsters from year five at the school in Daubeney Road, Clapton, raised the money selling calendars and doing good deeds at school and at home.
Teacher Ismail Matvad, said: “Our year five children raised £400 for the Starlight Children’s ward as part of our religious education topic which is looking at aid and helping others.”
Marianne Hill, lead nurse at the Starlight children’s unit at the hospital, in Homerton Row, Homerton, said: “It was so nice that the school thought about the children’s ward here at Homerton Hospital.
“As a unit we were really touched they thought of us.
“Given 90 per cent of the pupils had been born at the hospital, it was nice that they could support the children’s ward and do nice things for us here. It was really touching.
“We’re probably looking at buying some kind of equipment we can say that year five Daubeney schoolchildren have helped purchase.”
The children’s ward looks after children with acute illnesses who need to stay in hospital for a short period.
