Big-hearted school pupils raised £3,500 to keep thousands of disadvantaged children warm throughout the winter.
Children at The Olive School in Cazenove Road, Stoke Newington, used a variety schemes to bring in cash earlier this month, all of which will go towards Tauheedul Relief Trust’s Winter Warmth campaign, which aims to provide heating – including blankets and central heating – to kids across the UK.
Executive headteacher Julie Bradley said: “The children have demonstrated their commitment to excellence and community service and campaigning hard for disadvantaged and vulnerable children in the UK.
“It is incredibly humbling to see 180 four and five-year-old children raise a phenomenal amount of charity within a few days.”
Mufti Hamid Patel, chairman of the school and chief executive of the Tauheedul Trust, said: “As a Trust, we recognise that there are 4million children growing up in poverty in Britain and some of these are living in homes lacking the most basic things the rest of us take for granted.”
