A bus and a Tube train have been squeezed inside Hackney Museum as part of an annual scheme to teach children how to become more independent.

Pupils aged 10 and 11, from London Fields and Morningside Primary Schools, took part in Hackney’s Junior Citizenship Scheme session at the museum in Reading Lane, Hackney Central on December 2.

They learned how to use public transport responsibly, along with road safety knowledge, hands-on bandaging and using Zip Oyster cards.

Hackney’s Speaker, Cllr Sade Etti, said: “I am impressed with the level of training given to children on safety, this is not just benefitting the children but the whole community at large.”

Samuel Bass, a teacher at London Fields Primary School, said: “The scheme is so useful. I could teach them all of this but it’s better for them to get it from the professionals, the energy from the organisations is amazing.”
