Sixth formers in Clapton will celebrate the positive aspects of Hackney in the Olympic year in a talent showcase on Wednesday May 9.

They are Legacy Champions; students in Olympic boroughs who work together to create inspirational community projects in the build up to London 2012.

The BSix students’ black tie evening will feature singing, music and dance performances at their sixth form college.

Students past and present will perform at the event attended by youth-led Reprezent Radio who are producing a show about the Legacy Champions.

Sarah Kerrigan, BSix Sports Co-ordinator, has helped the students in their work as Legacy Champions.

She said she is impressed by their enthusiasm.

“The students have been enjoying the project, interacting with various members of the community and planning the show. They have gained in confidence and really reflect on the opinions of each person they speak to.”

The aim of the programme, which is sponsored by EDF Energy and youth action charity Envision, is to use the Games as inspiration for young people to tackle environmental and social issues by taking action in their community.

As part of the programme, the students took part in a mass volunteering event to clean the River Thames.

They also decided to find out what Hackney residents thought of the Olympics coming to the borough and plan to produce podcasts to share their findings.
