Crowdfunding success for Artburst’s appeal to renovate Hoxton premises

A social enterprise that hosts free children’s art workshops is using innovative “crowdfunding” techniques to pay for renovations to its new premises.

Artburst made a third of its �3,000 target within just one week by using the web-based technique, which allows people to pool small amounts of money to back a good idea or project.

In a short video posted on the Kickstarter site, the Artburst team introduce themselves and explain what they want to do with the space, like adding a baby changing unit.

They want to make sure the property is ready to go by January, when they will begin art, drama, music and movement sessions for under-fives using a �370,000 Big Lottery Fund grant.

“We are well known for doing outreach in schools but having a premises means we can begin running workshops in-house for the first time, we have a shop front on a street with a lot of footfall,” explained co-founder Penny Embden.
