Hackney Community College has won a national award recognising the specialist support it gives to learners with moderate to severe learning disabilities.
The Association of Colleges Beacon Award for Inclusive Learning was formally presented to the college last week at Westminster along with a cheque for £5,000.
Students and parents came together to celebrate the accolade at the college’s training restaurant, Open Kitchen in Hoxton Street last Friday.
Six local authorities send young people to the college’s New Horizon programme, and the real benefit is that students do not need to attend a specialist residential college away from home.
HCC was one of just 13 award winners from the 175 awards submissions.
