Hackney’s five- to seven-year-olds are leading the country in reading, writing and maths.
The borough has been ranked first out of 150 in England for children reaching the expected standard in the three important areas.
The figures were released last week in the Department of Education’s 2016 report looking at Key Stage 1 – which measures progress between school years 1 and 2.
Hackney pupils eligible for free school meals, and those with an education, health and care plan – a document that describes extra help needed in light of educational and health needs – are also ranked in the top five in the country.
Hackney’s education chief Cllr Anntoinette Bramble, said: “I am delighted to see these results, which is down to the hard work of Hackney’s children, parents, guardians and teachers.
“We aim to give every child the best start in life and these figures along with the success at Key Stage 2 give me the confidence we are doing just that. Congratulations and well done to everyone.”
