Hackney youngsters were shown how a police dog can apprehend a suspect and search for vital evidence when Louis the German Shepherd and Harry the Spaniel visited their school last week.

Students at Mossbourne Academy were learning all about the vital role played by police dogs in a Crime Awareness Day at their school in Hackney Downs.

By living and working together the police dog and its handler form a closely bonded team and can rely on each other in dangerous situations,

With an acute sense of smell and the ability to get into spaces inaccessible to officers, police dogs are able to carry out tasks that would be both time consuming and dangerous to officers.

Officers from SCD1, the homicide and serious crime unit, CO19 – the tactical firearms unit and Trident were also present.
