A brand new secondary free school, which plans to open this September, has finally announced the site it has earmarked in Hackney.
Hackney New School secured funding from the Secretary of State for Education this summer, and has now reached a preliminary agreement to locate the school at the corner of Downham Road and Kingsland Road in Haggerston.
The site from 1-9 Downham Road site already has the required school planning use classification, and the plan is to refurbish the current building by September to accommodate 200 pupils in the first two year groups.
Meanwhile, subject to planning permission, the adjoining site at 317-319 Kingsland Road
will be developed over the next two and a half years to create facilities which will eventually house the entire school and sixth form.
