A group of Upper Clapton secondary students took on the roles of teachers when they worked with London fields youngsters to overcome their anxieties about moving on to secondary school.

Girls from Our Lady’s Convent High School in Laura Place worked with children from Gayhurst Primary School in Gayhurst Road on the Stepping Up programme.

Run by Inspire! The Education Business Partnership for Hackney and supported by global investment bank, UBS, it gives young people the opportunity to take part in a project that benefits their local community, while also developing their enterprise and employability skills.

The girls then made a presentation to UBS about what they did and what they had learned.

Our Lady’s teacher Clare Bennett said: “This project has been really good for them. On work experience, they might just be expected to play with the children but here, they have been thrown in the deep end and have had to plan an activity and think things through.”
