Hackney’s Queensbridge School chosen for Mayor’s London Schools Gold Club

Queensbridge is amongst 111 schools in the capital chosen to be part of the Mayor’s London Schools Gold Club, a new scheme recognising exceptional schools which have succeeded against the odds in improving pupils’ aspirations and achievements.

The primary school in Queensbridge Road, Haggerston which is led by Sarah Bailey was picked out along with the other for their efforts to drive up standards in teaching and raise attainment and aspiration amongst young Londoners.

The Gold Club follows the launch of the £24m London Schools Excellence Fund, which sees high performing schools working with partners to help raise teaching standards in other schools.

The idea is both schemes will see teachers sharing their good ideas.

London Mayor Boris Johnson said: “Our finest schools recognise the importance of competition, rigour, creativity, discipline, and progression on the basis of academic merit.

“But there are still those out there who think it is enough to pat ourselves on the back and say London is “good enough”.

“No - we can do better - we owe it to our children and the success and prosperity of our city demand it.”
