Hackney schools face four days of filth as cleaners have announced a walk out over pay cuts.

More than 40 cleaners will hang up their brooms from January 30 to February 2, with another strike planned for February 5.

The workers, all Unite members, are furious about OCS Group Ltd’s refusal to pay the London Living Wage of £10.20 an hour. They’re also disputing holiday pay and potential pay cuts for term-time contracts.

Unite’s Onay Kasab said: “What we have here is outrageous salami-slicing of pay and employment conditions of an already lowly-paid group of workers. The bosses need to sit down and hold constructive talks to resolve this dispute, otherwise rubbish will be uncollected and toilets uncleaned.”

It affects Cardinal Pole, Clapton Girls Academy, Hackney Free School, Haggerston School, Ickburgh School and Stoke Newington School.

Hackney Council did not want to comment on the strike.
